2007-07-01 On July 1st the Oberbaumbrücke, or Oberbaum bridge
becomes not only an important Berlin’s attraction, but also a large open-air
gallery where about 100 artists from all over Berlin and Europe display their
creations and discuss them with the public. The event is organised only twice
every summer – this year the dates are: 1st of July and
5th of August, so its something that shouldn’t be missed. Open-air
gallery is organised by Stadtteilausschuß Kreuzberg and the Künstleriniative
East Side Gallery and is aimed to improve the area around the river Spree and
bring an artistic touch to German capital. The bridge itself is something worth
seeing. It was built about a hundred years ago and got its name for tree-trunks
which were used to shut down the river to traffic at night. Visitors will like
this double-decked gothic-style bridge of red bricks. The open-air gallery is
opened 10am to10pm
