Ré Soupault – Photographer of the magic second

Ré Soupault – Photographer of the magic second

2007-07-12
Another exhibition at Martin-Gropius-Bau demonstrates works by Ré Soupault, the photographer of the 20th century who was in the centre of classical Modernism in both Berlin and Paris. Her life was long and full of events. Born in Bublitz, Pomerania, she studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar and entered the world of European avant-garde which brought her recognition. Later on, the photographer worked as a fashion journalist and even opened her fashion studio “Ré Sport” in Paris. Ré Soupault started her career as a photographer in 1934, and during the period from  1934 to 1952 she visited many countries and shot many excellent pictures. Then she took other occupations, including translation, film-making and writing. But still, what she is most famous for is photography. The author shot only scenes of everyday life, none of her works was set up. The exhibition is a retrospective of her masterpieces, with 250 exhibits, many of which are vintage ones. Visit the exhibition till August 13th.
