2007-07-12 Another exhibition at Martin-Gropius-Bau demonstrates works by Ré
Soupault, the photographer of the 20th century who was in the
centre of classical Modernism in both Berlin and Paris. Her life was long and full
of events. Born in Bublitz, Pomerania, she studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar
and entered the world of European avant-garde which brought her recognition.
Later on, the photographer worked as a fashion journalist and even opened her
fashion studio “Ré Sport” in Paris. Ré Soupault started her career as a photographer
in 1934, and during the period from 1934 to 1952 she
visited many countries and shot many excellent pictures. Then she took other
occupations, including translation, film-making and writing. But still, what she
is most famous for is photography. The author shot only scenes of everyday life,
none of her works was set up. The exhibition is a retrospective of her
masterpieces, with 250 exhibits, many of which are vintage ones. Visit the
