2007-08-15 Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin (Museum of Technology) presents
an exhibition "Radiant Landscapes" - Photographs by
Karl-Heinz Rothenberger, available at the museum until 14 October 2007. The
exhibition covers interesting and important subjects of technology, progress and
their influence on ecology. The first issue is about huge uranium deposits that
were situated in the town of Ronneburg in Thuringia. This caused much damage to
local people and nature. Needless to say, the landscape was severely damaged as
well, and now one of the main problems faced by Europe is to clean up this vast
area. The other problem is electricity pylons situated all around Europe that
provide us with electricity. The task that has to be fulfilled now is to cover
the pylons with fabric so that metal dust produced during sand-blasting would
not spread onto the surrounding fields. These two important issues are reviewed
in a series of photographs which you can now see at the exhibition.
