2007-11-14 The period from 15th to
17th centuries is known as the Age of Discovery, when European
ships traveled around the world and made significant discoveries. Portugal played
a significant role in this process, which is portrayed at the exhibition
“Novos Mundos – New Worlds. Portugal and the Age of Discovery” at the German
Historical Museum (the end date is 10 February 2008). Organised in cooperation with
the Instituto Camões (Lisbon) and the Embassy of Portugal in Berlin, it gives
an overview of the most important sea voyages and names of the time (some of
which are Bartolomeu Dias, Vasco de Gama and Fernão de Magalhães known as
Magellan). You will learn about the Portuguese contribution to the new trade routes, their
acquaintance with new nations and cultures, their conflicts, trade relations and
cultural exchange. Thanks to collaboration with Portuguese institutions, objects
and documents of the exhibition are truly unique ones.
