2006-07-22 This year it will be the 28th time when Berlin welcomes Christopher Street Day. 400 000 visitors are expected, that places this parade in one row with Prides in New York, London, Amsterdam and San Francisco. Christopher Street Day isn’t only a German holiday – approximately a quarter of its attendants will come from abroad. The main event of the day is the rally starting at 9.30 am, July 22. The parade begins at noon on the Kufurstendamm (between Olivaer Platz and Knesebeckstrasse) and heads for Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate, ending on Strasse des 17 Juni. All this festive atmosphere will reign in the city till the night. Berlin hosted this event for the first time in 1979 and many of the country's gay pride celebrations are still called Christopher Street Days (after the New York Stonewall riots in 1969).
